Sunderland have made a bid for Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia, according to The Times.
Reds manager Rafa Benitez is adamant on keeping the 35-year-old and may be offered an extra year.
Hyypia’s contract ends in the summer and Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia is keen to add the experienced defender to his squad.
Along with Sunderland, Premier League rivals Stoke City are also interested in signing Hyypia.
