Euro success will boost Torres: Hunt

Roger Hunt has said that if Torres achieves Euro 2008 success with Spain, it could make him an even more lethal striker next season and has warned Premier League defenders.

The Liverpool legend knows how it feels when a player triumphs in a major tournament, having won the World Cup with England in 1966, and he suggests a Spain victory this evening could see Torres give defenders nightmares next season.

“I’m not saying that Torres lacks confidence, but if Spain do win on Sunday it will give him a fantastic boost,” he said.

“I certainly felt a more confident player when we won the World Cup.

“There are certain moments in your career when your confidence gets a real boost; winning your first international cap is one because it gives you the belief that you’re good enough to play at that level.

“Then winning an international tournament is another. To win the World Cup was something I never really dreamed of.

“With the system England played them it was more difficult to play for them than it was for Liverpool, but I did come back feeling more confident about myself.”
