Reds winger confirms commitment

August 25, 2008

Reds winger Jermaine Pennant has claimed that he is staying at Anfield despite many reports linking him with a move to Blackburn.

The England international signed for Liverpool in 2006 for £7 million but has made only 18 league starts and scored 2 goals for the club last season.

Blackburn Rovers is a likely destination with Paul Ince a keen admirer of Pennant. However, Pennant has said that he wants to remain on Merseyside.

He told The People newspaper: “I want to stay at Liverpool.”

“I have been given a fantastic opportunity to play for the team I supported as a kid and all I want to do is work hard and fight for my place in the team.” he added.

Although Downing and Riera have been linked with Liverpool as well and Kuyt a favourite at the right-winger position, Pennant’s life will only get tougher at Anfield.

I think Pennant should go coz he cant cross 2 save his life! We have too many fringe players such as Benayoun, Kuyt and Voronin, and they all need to go if we are to contend with chelsea n man utd 4 the title

Got something to say?
