Rafa awaits new contract

Sunday, 19th October 2008 · Share on Facebook

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that he is still awaiting a new contract from owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Benitez took over from Gérard Houllier over four years ago and has only 18 months left on his current deal with the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool’s American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have not yet opened negotiations and talks regarding an extension.

Reports have suggested that a delay in beginning talks with the Spaniard could lead to several key players leaving from Liverpool.

The former Valencia manager has also admitted that he hasn’t received or heard about any contract.

“I will not allow the situation to distrub my concentration because we have a lot of very important games coming up,” said Benitez in The People.

“But I have not heard anything about a new contract.”

we should wait and c how liverpool fair in the league before benitez deserves another contract in all fairness hes in his 5th year and we still haven’t challenged for the premier title,in saying that if they bring in some1 new its gonna take time for them to build there own team mayb 2-3 seasons so we will fall behind the likes of utd and chelsea even more than what we are already

The owners better buck up and not take it for granted, Sorting out the contract or at least making the right statement of intent will at least display some semblance of respect for a manager who can easily walk into many world class clubs. The premier league win should not a yardstick now. Don’t wait to see if we win the league to give Rafa an extension. He is taking the club on the right path to former glory days. He is well respected and has a high loyalty level among players and a majority of fans support him. His only drawback was a shortage of funds which hampered his plans to beef up some departments with world class players. Ferguson take more than fice seasona to show his mettle. Rafa has already won a CL, enter the final and semis one each and at least kept Liverpool up among the best in the EPL and Europe. Comparatively he has outdone SAF, Wenger and the Chelsea bunch of managers in the same period. IN RAFA WE TRUST.
