Liverpool duo named in England squad

Liverpool duo Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard have been included in the England squad to face Holland in an international friendly next week.

England manager Fabio Capello announced a 23-man squad to face Holland in Amsterdam which included Liverpool pair Johnson and Gerrard.

Holland announced their 22-man squad on Friday which included Liverpool wingers Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel.

Johnson, who joined Liverpool this summer, had already established his place in the first team for England following impressive displays for Portsmouth.

If Gerrard plays a part in Amsterdam, it would be his 75th appearance for England, having scored 14 goals so far.

Notable absentees for England were former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who joined Manchester United last month and former Liverpool goalkeeper David James.

England squad: Ben Foster, Robert Green, Paul Robinson; Wayne Bridge, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Jolean Lescott, John Terry, Matthew Upson; Gareth Barry, David Beckham, Michael Carrick, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Young; Andy Cole, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney, Jermaine Defoe.

Holland squad: Maarten Stekelenburg, Michel Vorm, John Heitinga, Joris Mathijsen, Dirk Marcellis, Andre Ooijer, Edson Braafheid, Gregory van der Wiel, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Mark van Bommel, Nigel de Jong, Rafael van der Vaart, Demy de Zeeuw, Stijn Schaars, David Mendes da Silva, Ibrahim Afellay, Wesley Sneijder, Dirk Kuyt, Robin van Persie, Ryan Babel, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Arjen Robben.

   i hope green will be england’s goalkeeper in world cup, not james, foster or robinson

   Green deserves tht england spot. he was arguably the most consistent goalkeeper last season. he is west ham’s unsung hero. and gerrard should also captain england. he definitely is captain marvel.
