Liverpool agree fee for £16m midfielder
Liverpool are set to sign Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani after the two clubs agreed a fee of £16million, according to reports in Italy.
Personal terms will not be discussed until Xabi Alonso completes his move to Real Madrid.
However, if Alonso’s move to Madrid collapses, Liverpool will not discuss terms with Aquilani and the transfer will not be completed.
Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena welcomed the signing of the 25-year old Italian international.
He said: “Aquilani is destined to improve even more and could do so even more quickly under a great coach like Benitez.
“A player like him can comfortably play for Liverpool or any other club. He was sidelined due to physical problems last season and could not be at his best, but he has proved to be a great footballer.
“Aquilani can do well in the Premier League, even though it is a more physical league than Serie A.
“Benitez is very good at setting up the team and moving it around. He has many solutions at his disposal and could employ Aquilani in different ways.”

First of all sell babel for 8 mil and then sell riera for 7 mil then sell alonso for 32 mil and sell el zhar for 2 mil and sell benayoun for 12 mil and with the 61 mil raised sign alonso’s replacement aqualani for 16 mil sign riera/benayoun’s replacement siva for 25 mil then sign a partner for torres e.g lavezzi or aguero for 20-30 mil however rafa would have to spend a little extra than what he got from selling all those players.
