Lee: “We can improve”

August 19, 2008

Liverpool assistant coach Sammy Lee has admitted the the Reds can improve after a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

The former Anfield legend is adamant that the players can raise the bar against Middlesbrough at Anfield on Saturday.

“It’s always nice to get off the season underway with a win,” he told the official website.

“I think we are fully aware of the fact we didn’t play to our best but the important thing is to get off to a good start with three points away from home.

“Winning isn’t all that matters but it’s important that you start the season well and finish it well. We need to improve in all areas and that’s what we are about anyway; making sure we improve on a daily basis.

“We know we aren’t firing on all cylinders just yet but it was just nice to get off to a win, particularly away from home.

“We all want to hit the ground running and you can do no better than to get off to a win. But with Liverpool being Liverpool we are perfectionists. We are never happy whether it’s 1-0, 3-0, 4-0 and we’ll certainly be looking to improve in the coming days.” he concluded.
