The Netherlands won 2-0 on the night against Romania. Coming on as a 61st minute replacement for Real Madrid’s Arjen Robben, Kuyt made his third appearance of the tournament.
Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored the first goal and Arsenal’s Robin van Persie added a wonderful second in the 87th minute.
Holland will play either Sweden or Russia in the quarter-final in Basel on Saturday night.
Spain are to play against Romania tonight, with Pepe Reina, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa looking to make their first start in the competition.
