Heavy defeat for U-18s

Liverpool U-18s suffered a 3-0 defeat against Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol in the Villarreal International tournament.

New German signing Christopher Buchtmann picked up a knee injury early in the first half and it got worse for the Reds.

Coach Hughie McAuley wasn’t impressed by the performance and hopes they can be better in the game against Real Madrid today.

“We made some poor mistakes and I have to say that on the night they were better than us,” he said.

“We didn’t play as well as we have been doing in pre-season and we didn’t pass the ball like we normally do.

“We created some decent chances but Nathan and Marvin Pourie couldn’t take them and we gave away some poor goals.

“I will be looking for a response from the players when we face Real Madrid tonight. That will be a big test for us.” he added.
