Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have released a statement regarding the club’s ownership.
Prince Khalid al-Faisal was seen with Gillett at Anfield following the game against Hull City however, the duo insist there has been no agreement.
“The owners have jointly retained Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Rothschild to evaluate the possibility of new investors injecting equity into LFC.
“However, the process is at an early stage, there is no agreement with any party and reports to the contrary are wholly inaccurate.”
However, LFCGlobe.com contacted Merrill Lynch regarding the ownership saga and an unnamed source gave us more information about the deal.
“Liverpool FC co-owner George Gillett met with Khalid al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia on September 26th,” the source told us.
“The conversation started 4 months ago and was to do with building a Liverpool Football Club academy in Saudi Arabia.
“However, Khalid al-Faisal started to grow keen on buying a stake in the club.
“The deal which George Gillett and Khalid al-Faisal have signed on September 26th is only to do with the football academy. Meanwhile, Gillett, al-Faisal and Tom Hicks are in discussion over the ownership of the club.
“al-Faisal wants to buy up to 50 per cent in the club but neither Hicks or Gillett are willing to let go of their shares as of yet.”
