England winger to join Liverpool?
August 24, 2008
Rafa Benitez is set to turn his attentions to ‘Boro winger Stewart Downing as he tries to sign a left-sided winger.
Although Villa captain Gareth Barry is top of Rafael Benitez’s list, he will have to do with Downing, a cheaper option.
Although the Reds have been heavily linked with Espanyol’s Albert Riera, recent reports suggested that the £22m price-tag was too much for Rafa Benitez’s men.
The Middlesbrough winger appeared as a substitute in Wednesday night’s international friendly against the Czech Republic and played the full 90 minutes against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
Reports suggest that Liverpool will offer £14 million for Downing, although Boro want £16 million for the midfielder.
Downing has made over 150 appearances for Middlesbrough, scoring only 23 times however.

THIS IS A GOOD OPTION FOR OUR TEAM TO IMPROVE.SO WE NEED TOO MUCH A LEFT WINGER .KARDIGUE FROM MALI ALIVERPOOL FAN

w’d hve gone 4 quaresma but money problem
Downing is eqully gd, bring him Rafa en we show p’ple our true colors
NEVER WALK ALONE
SAW HIM Y’DAY TERORISING OUR LEFT FLANK
W’D B GREAT ADDITION.
yeah, but he terrorised the worst right fullback (on urrent form) in the league. He reminds me of lee Sharpe , he hs no tricks and finds it difficult to go by his man. Good crosser though.
Decent buy if it goes thru. Won’t set the league on fire but he’s a left-sided player that we sorely need. I agree, Arbeloa is just not LFC material…..
that is really Avery good option.reason being Downing is Avery good wide winger whom Liverpool would love to use
