England winger linked with Liverpool
Liverpool are interested in signing Middlesbrough winger Stuart Downing in the summer, according to FootyLatest.
Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the England international. Spurs made a move for the winger in the January transfer window however, the bid was rejected within hours.
Downing said: “I am here until the summer so I might as well get on with it and help us stay in the league.
“Staying in this league would be the biggest one, then whoever is here next year season and whoever is not can hold their head up and say, ‘I did my bit’. Hopefully, that will be enough for people.”
“Not only that, it’s personal pride as well,” he said. “I have got my England place to think of and there’s a World Cup next year. I need to play well at all times and that was an incentive for me.
“I am playing in front of my friends, family and home-town people, so that’s another one. You don’t want to play poorly in front of them because things would be said. You just get on with it and hopefully we will get out of the situation we are in.”
