Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is set to fly in to Liverpool within the next 24 hours to complete a medical at the club.
Liverpool and Roma had an agreement in place for Aquilani since July, as we exclusively revealed.
Personal terms have also been discussed behind the scenes with Aquilani to be offered a 5-year contract worth £3.5million.
Aquilani, who only made 14 appearances for Roma last season due to injury, will have to complete a thorough medical at Melwood before signing.
If the 25-year-old passes his medical, the deal will be announced before the end of the week as Benitez wants Aquilani to fit into the team with only ten days left till the Premier League season kicks-off.
Contrary to reports from Sky Sports News on Tuesday, Liverpool are not interested in signing Christian Poulsen from Juventus and the two clubs haven’t made any contact.

This Lad is class he similar to alonso in many ways, but he more skillfull and 3 years younger.only worry i have is over his fitness, hope this deal Happens, and no way we should get poulson Ynwa
Aquilani is a fantastic player but he is very quick and stronger physically than Xabi, We do need to be sure the lad is fit enough for the Premier League. I agree there has been a lot of stupid stories bordering on fantasy recently, I can understand why Rafa likes this lad but ‘How many Italians really cut it in England’???. We have a good manager who has justified pushing Rick Parry out of the club, How much would Parry have got for Xabi?. Trust in Rafa lads he loves our club!!!
Aquiliani has great potentiontial, and has all ready shown he has class. Lets make him a red boys!!

i hope we dont get lee cattermole because he’s crap and also we need a good striker
Great highlight video that shows not just his goals but more importantly – his amazing passing skills. Looks like he will be a great addition to Liverpool. He’s able to string great cross field passes in the way that Xabi did so well!
Until he’s 100 percent fit and ready to play – we have Masch as well as Lucas, Babel, and even Spearing who could fill in as a 5th mid-fielder, assuming we don’t pick up a great striker or winger taht won’t make it necessary.

he can play behind torres and steve g but his fitness is a big worry
we need to get a striker someone like negredo, van nistleroy or tuncay who would link up well with torres and u would get them for 10 million each
Might be the replacement we need. Just hope he can stand to the rigourous English playing style.
i worry his stamina… or like dossena… ehhhmmm… i hope he can more like alonso…
good luck!!
Lucas must be jealous lulz
