Alberto Aquilani edged closer to his Liverpool debut after he kicked a ball for the first time in six months following an ankle injury.
Rafa Benitez last week revealed that the Italian was making good progress but will not be rushed into first-team football.
The 25-year-old has started kicking a ball and practising his passing and shooting in the past week.
Aquilani, who came in as Xabi Alonso’s replacement, will not make his debut in a crucial game against Manchester United on October 25th.
The former Roma midfielder might play a part against Sunderland at home next weekend in a reserves clash to get his first taste of English football.
However, it is most likely that Aquilani will feature against Arsenal in the Carling Cup fourth round clash at the Emirates on October 28th.
