Alonso edges closer to Real move
Xabi Alonso is set to complete his move to Real Madrid this week as the Spanish giants look set to increase their bid, according to latest reports.
Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow met with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Angel Sanchez in Barcelona yesterday night.
Sanchez finally agreed to cave in to Liverpool’s £30million valuation of the player.
Alonso said: “It is a relief Madrid and Liverpool are speaking seriously.
“I decided a long time ago to keep on the fringes of everything that’s happened, and I’ve made that clear to everyone.
“I am a professional and I am just waiting to see if they come to an agreement. I hope, though, that it is resolved soon, for better or worse.”
The Spanish giants will make a £30million bid for the Spanish international later this week, with Liverpool prepared to accept it.
Meanwhile, Roma and Liverpool have already agreed a fee for Alberto Aquilani, who will replace Alonso at Anfield, with only personal terms to be discussed, we exclusively revealed in July.
Benitez may also look to make a bid for Valencia winger David Silva, who has been the Spaniard’s long-term target.

I actually don’t totally disagree with you on this one Abdul, Alonso is irreplaceable, look at his exquisite passing skills, his ability to see players run and the pick the pass, the ability to score from inside your own half, Alonso is just as important as Stevie G in this squad, any time Gerrard is injured Alonso is the one who has to keep the team together and is a perfect player all round.
The only way Alonso can be replaced is if we get another player of Stevie G’s quality, only Kaka and C.Ronaldo come to mind, which isn’t possible with £30 Million since they went for record breaking fees in the same transfer window.
I think it’s impossible to find a Centre Midfielder of Gerrards quality so if we bought a good striker, such as David Villa, then Stevie G can keep the team together in the heart of the midfield and let D.Villa sit just behind Torres and supply him with the passes and it would be a good 1-2 combination with Villa & Torres!

Well let’s hope that we get everything sorted quickly. The season is coming up thick and fast and we need the team to bond and know each other before we kick off at white hart lane. The player we need must produce the same quality as Alonso and though he is replacble, I do believe that not a lot of players has the same attributes as to that of Xabi. Aquilani I think is good enough or just little bit under par from Alonso and thus will not actually affect the overall quality of our team. Apart from that, a good if not a world class striker must be signed to further strengthen the squad. This year’s transfer market has not in fairness been a good one for us, but I am adamant this season we will end our 19 years drought because not matter what players we got, I have faith in the team. Let’s hope liverpool have that faith too.

about Aquilani and defour, i think no problem if you buy them… but please buy another full back (i watch liverpool lose 3-0 vs espanyol)… i suggest vanden borre (belgia) or baines (england) or jeremy mathieu (france) is one alternative with miguel torres (spain)…
i think for me. the best is to play a 4-1-2-3. it bolsters the attack. mascherano is guarding the defence and two attacking midfielders which, i hope would be silva and gerrard and 3 fowards upfront. bring realistic here, we could only use torres and voronin and kuyt for the coming season as ther three upfront.
